Phuket is the largest island in Thailand. It is located in the Andaman Sea on the southern part of Thailand, the Neighbouring provinces are Phang Nga and Krabi, but as Phuket is an island there are no land boundaries.

60% of the island is the forest, rubber and palm oil plantations. The western coast has a long sandy beach, the eastern coast are muddy. The southern of the island is Laem Promthep, it is the good viewing to see the sunset on Phuket.
The most popular beach for tourist on Phuket is Patong Beach, it is located on the central western coast. The other popular beaches are Karon Beach, Kata Beach, Kata Noi Beach, Nai Harn Beach and Rawai. To the north of Patong are Kamala Beach, Surin Beach and Bang Tao Beach. Similan islands and Phi Phi islands is the most favorite for snorkellers and scubar divers.

Trasportation

There are 4 ways to go to Phuket following :

By air
There are the direct flight from Bangkok to Phuket daily, some flight via at Samui island. The total from Bangkok to Phuket about 1.20 hours.

By bus
Air-conditioned and non air-con buses from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal for Phuket several times daily. The trip by air-con bus, normally leaving in the evening, takes about 12 hours.

By car
From Bangkok, take Highway No.4 (Phetchakasem Road) through Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani and Phang-nga, then cross the Thep Krasattri Bridge or Sarasin Bridge to Phuket Island. The total distance is 862 kilometres. The total time is taking about 12 hours.

By rial
There is no direct train to Phuket, the tourist have to get off at Phun Phin railway station at Surat Thani and catch the bus to Phuket.

Beach

Hat Patong (Patong Beach) this beach is favorite for tourist, there everything offer the tourist such as sporting, shopping, windsurfing, snorkelling, sailing, swimming, and sunbathing and there are many good restaurants on the beach.
Laem Promthep (Promthep Cape) it is the best place to see the sunset on Phuket, there are many restaurants for the tourist to dinner and see the sunset.

Hat Karon (Karon Beach) it is far from the town about 20 kilometers, this beach is the second largest of Phuket. There are many last resort along the shore, the sand is very white and there are many good restaurants in this beach. The southern point has a fine coral reef stretching toward Kata and Bu island.

Kamala Beach Kamala is located of the north of Patong. Tourist development on the beach much of which is covered by a Muslim graveyard and a police outpost has been slow in coming. The length of this beach is about 2 kilometers. There are many accommodations and restaurants , the most of popular dinner is seafood. Kamala is the perfect place to get away from it all and has little to offer in the way of entertainment for that go across the mountains to Patong. Regular bus service to and from Phuket Town during daytime; tuk-tuk service available to Patong, 5 kms. away on the new road.

Koh Samet, Thailand


Koh Samet is the one of the most favorite island in Thailand, it is located in Kho Laem Ya – Moo Kho Samet National Park, Ban Phe district, Rayong province. Koh Samet is far from Bangkok about 230 kilometers (just 2-3 drive). The size of the island is about 13.1 square kilometers and the shaped look like the letter “T”. The name of this island come from the cajeput tree that found around the island.

About the Island

Koh Samet is the favorite place for the Thai and foreign tourist because it is not far from Bangkok. There are 12 beaches in this island include : Hat Sai Kaew (Sai Kaew Beach), Ao Phi, Ao Wai, Ao Cho, Ao Vong Duean, Ao Prao, Ao Noi Na, Ao Prakarang, Ao Sapparos (Pineapple Beach), Ao Tian, Ao Lung Dum and Ao Lung Wang. There are a lot of accommodation with the different price for the tourist to choose. You have to pay more if you want to stay in resort that located on the beach but it is not over expensive. There are many cheap guest house, it is located a little bit far from the beach (just 300 meters)
The beach on Samet is very clean and clear water, there are many activities around you included boat trip, body massage, snorkeling / diving, fishing and windsurfing.

Boat Trips

There are arranged to take tourist around the island (by slow boat or speed boat) to snorkeling and diving sports. The tourist can contact with the agency that show on the advertise board around the beach or Ban Phe pier.

Massage

There are countless masseure offering their massage service on the beach (body massage and foot massage) along the main road.

Snorkeling / Diving

Koh Samet is very popular for the divers and snorkelers because of the clear water, colorful coral, diversity of marine life such as : turtles, tiger sharks, manta rays and it is not far from Bangkok. The other favorite location for the divers near Koh Samet are Koh Talu and Koh Kood. The pristine reefs and beaches of the four nearby uninhabited islets Ko Kudi, Ko Kruai, Ko Kham, and Ko Pla Tin make them lovely scuba and snorkelling day-trips, on which visitors are advised to bring their own food and water (always a good sign on an island-hopping daytrip). Ko Thalu, slightly further afield, is lushly forested and inhabited by seagulls, flying foxes, and turtles. Whilst high cliffs occupy the west, often-deserted white sandy beaches are to be found on the east and southern sides of the island.

Fishing

The night fishing trips is one of the most popular activity for Thai and foreign tourist, you can contact with the agent who service the fishing trip at the beach or Ban Phe pier same as the boat trip.

Windsurfing

There are many windsurfing agency on Hat Sai Kaew because the north of this beach is a good location for windsurfing, with its rocky coastline and offshore wind.

The beach

Hat Sai Kaew (Sai Kaew Beach)
Hat Sai Kaew is one of the popular beach for tourist. The lengthj of the beach from north – east is about 780 meters. The sand is white and the water is invitingly green – blue. If you like to have a little people and activities around you, this beach is a very good choice for you. You can rent the motorcycle to ride around the island (300 bath / day) and there are many accommodation, restaurant, bar, internet café and laundry service on this beach.

Ao Vong Duean

Ao Vong Duean is one of the favorite beach same as Hat Sai Kaew, the length of this beach about 500 meters and the shaped look like half moon, It is the best place to see the sunrise on the island. The sand is also white and the atmosphere here is really pleasant.

Ao Prao
Ao Prao is the only beach that located on the west coast of Koh Samet. The beach is about 200 meters long with the very good atmosphere. Ao Prao is the best place for see the beautiful sunset on Koh Samet.

The other beach of Samet is also very beautiful and quite, it suite for the tourist who want the private on vacation.

On Koh Samet, there are the little hospital and the pharmacies near Hai Sai Kaew Beah but for anything serious it is easy to return to Bangkok.

How to go to Koh Samed

By car
There are 5 route to go to Samet following :

No.1
Sukhumvit Road (highway no. 3) : start from Bangkok passes Bangpu, Choburi, Bangsaen, Sri Racha, Pattaya, Hat Jomtien, Sattahip, Bang Chang and arrive in Rayong provine, the total is 220 kilometers.

No.2
This is the most popular route, starting from Bangna – Trat Road via Bang Phli and Bang Bo (Samut Prakarn) the total distance about 220 kilometers

No.3
Highway no.3 to Bang Lamung the turn off of highway no.3 at km.140 and continue on highway no.36 to Rayong, the total distance about 210 kilometers

No.4
Highway no.344 (Ban Bung – Klaeng) at Chonburi town, passing Ban Bung. The distance is 100 kilometers.

No.5
Use the motorway, start from Phathanakarn Road, Prawat, Bangkok and drive to Pattaya than switch to use highway no.36 and proceed for another 50 kilometers to Rayong.

By bus
Start from Ekamai Department Moter Vehicle (about 300 meters from BTS Ekamai Station). You should contact Cherd Chai Tour (Public bus Provider), the bus runs everyday since 5.00 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Bangkok to Ban Phe station then catch the ferry on Ban Phe pier. The ferry leaves from Ban Phe everyday, every 20 – 30 minutes. The most popular pier called Na Dan, it takes time about 30 minutes from Ban Phe pier to Na dan Pier.
